Patricia Barnes Receives International Humanitarian Award
Patricia "Sister" Barnes, founder of Sister Schubert's Homemade Rolls, established Sasha's Home, a seven-apartment foster care facility that provides temporary families for nearly 40 abandoned Ukrainian children awaiting adoption in Gorlovka, Ukraine. Over the Christmas holiday in 2008, Sister paid a visit to Sasha's Home during which she received the silver Gorlov medal from Ivan Sakharchuk, mayor of Gorlovka recognizing her efforts. Named after the city's founder, Peter Gorlov, the award is given to outstanding individuals who have done something special in the city's lifeāand Sister has certainly accomplished something special for the children of Sasha's Home.
A Ukrainian newspaper printed an article about Sister receiving this award entitled "Patricia's Big Heart." Click here to read the full translation of the article.
